Are You My Breakfast - Now Available and shipping!

Are You My Breakfast?

We worked on this new book for the entire Winter and it’s finally HERE! Kevin the Zombie has finally made his book debut! Ashlie and I are so excited that Kevin is making his way out into the world and the world seems to be liking him! If you want to get in on the excitement you can order your copy RIGHT HERE!

Every morning, Kevin wakes up hungry and hurries to the kitchen for a big breakfast. But this morning is different. Join Kevin as he discovers the people and things that make up his community while on a search for the most important meal of the day. Written by Ashlie Hammond and Drawn by Dane Ault

NANOPICBOOKWRIMO Pages 12-16

So, the holiday and my laziness conspired to keep me away from you all this week, and I didn’t post these at all. So, I’m giving you a huge dump instead of individual posts. Please to be forgiving me.

In these pages, you can see Kevin is trying to get to the school (where the big brains are grown) but has come across yet another obstacle: A cauliflower field! What are these things, Kevin wonders. Are they edible?

NO. At least not as far as Kevin is concerned.

Unfortunately, Kevin’s discovery of this highly educated cabbage (per Mark Twain) is not well-received by the farmer that owns the field. Kevin is chased off and beats feet toward the school, post-haste.

A Very Special Book Announcement!

MINIONS! It’s time for a very special announcement!

This year at SDCC we’re debuting a new book at the Monkey Minion Press table: “Lucy Visits the SUPER Market!” The story of a very special little girl and a very special trip to the grocery store and the adventures and people she finds inside.

This book is special for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that we got someone super special to draw it: Robin Robinson! She’s really great and really nailed the retro world Ashlie Hammond envisioned in the story (and the characters are SOOO CUTE!) Robin has worked for game companies & other children’s book publishers, as well as writing and drawing her own books, so we were really lucky to get her. I think you’ll agree that Robin was the best possible choice to bring this story to life once you give it a read.

The book is a “Silent Storybook,” in that the story unfolds without text. It’s great for reading with small children and having them tell the story of what’s going on in the pictures. EXERCISE THOSE IMAGINATIONS. :)

“Lucy” is our first foray into publishing a book that wasn’t solely done by us (Ashlie & Dane), so it’s exciting and scary all at once. It’s also our first non-Pirate Monster kid’s book and the first set firmly in this world of “AbNormal” happenings (which you will learn more about soon, I promise).

We’ll only have a preview copy with us at SDCC (table O-2 in Small Press, remember), but we’ll be taking preorders and shipping them out as soon as we get the books from the printer. The books will be $15 each.

Choose Our Next Book!

Ok, so this week we’re doing something different. We want to do a kid’s book that doesn’t relate to Captain Dan for a change. (We’re not abandoning Captain Dan or his merry crew or monstrous scallywags, don’t fret) Ashlie has 2 awesome concepts for books, but alas I can only work on one at a time. SO! We’re turning to our minions (you lot) to choose.

Here’s how this will work: I’m going to post some preview art from both stories here and everywhere. What you’ll do is go to my FB page and vote for whichever one you want to see first! Easy-peasy!

First up: A really cute story about an as-yet-unnamed kid gets turned into an alien! What adventures will he have? Will he stay an alien forever? Only one way to find out!

Second up, we have a cute little story about Kevin, a small child who also just happens to be a zombie! Kevin wakes up hungry one day and embarks on a journey of discovery… and of breakfast!

So there you have it! Now, all you have to do is go to the FB page and VOTE! Tell your friends to vote! Have your kids (if you have them) vote! We’ll leave the voting up for a few days. The character with the most votes by Tuesday, 4/24, will be declared the winner and will be the first book made. Yay! It’s all in your hands, minions; don’t let me down! :)

Talk to you next week, when I will talk about Stumptown Comics Fest.
